Posts: 459 10/13/08 13:45:23	Tags : None Ok everyone....asking for some help please. I haven't been to Vegas since 2003, the year before our son was born, although I used to be a frequent visitor. The "girls" from the ER are heading there on Oct. 27-31. I've been reading as many trip reports as possible to get updated information...but I would be thankful for any replies to my questions below. 1. New sign-up promotions for casino players cards? 2. Video poker bars - where are the best and do you have to purchase drinks there now? (Ed & Fran?) 3. Are there any newer "must see" free things on the strip or downtown. 4. Diamond Lounges - which ones are worth visiting? What type of food is available? Do any have a view? 5. Video poker in general. Although I've checked the VPFree site for info....any really good places to play that all of you VP players might recommend? I've stayed at quite a few different hotels but had basically made MGM Grand my home. This trip we're staying at Caesars. Any general suggestions about Caesars? What rooms are good, where to eat, where to play? I'd be thankful for any information at all..........can't wait!!!!!! *Terri*

Posts: 3987 10/13/08 17:57:39	Terri: I cannot help you to much as far as the strip go's since hubby and I stay down town all the time anymore and we do not visit the strip very often But for video poker I really do not think there are any good paying machines in video poker on the strip. For good video poker machines we usually hit the local casinos such as the Cannery, Silverton, Sam's Town and we also like the 4 Queens down town and Main Street Station Now I could be wrong and they may have some good video poker machines up on the strip but from what I heard if there are any they are few and far between. Sorry I cannot be of much help to you but maybe some others here on the board can. *Geri*

At the Wynn, 100 points earned by a new card holder will qualify for a 2 person pass at the buffet and a free spin on a give-away wheel at the promotions center. Very good bufffet. 2. Video poker bars - where are the best and do you have to purchase drinks there now? (Ed & Fran?) Good vp is not available on the strip. Serious vp players I know are choosing off strip locations to play. 3. Are there any newer "must see" free things on the strip or downtown. Walking through the new Wynn and Palazzo hotels are "must sees", but nothing in terms of must see free shows has opened since 2003. TI changed its pirate show, and Mirage is in process of changing the volcano exhibit. IMO, the fountain show at Bellagio is still king of free strip shows. Big Elvis is still singing at the former Barbary Coast (now owned by Harrah's and called Bills Gambling Hall). Seeing the magnitude of the new construction next to Bellagio (City Center and Cosmopolitan) will surprise you. 4. Diamond Lounges - which ones are worth visiting? What type of food is available? Do any have a view? We went to the one at Caesars and were not impressed. The Diamond Clubs at Caesars AC and Ballys AC are exceptional in terms of view, but not so at CP in LV. 5. Video poker in general. Although I've checked the VPFree site for info....any really good places to play that all of you VP players might recommend? As I replied above, there is litle full play vp on the strip. Palms has 100+% payback quarter DDB and DW, but it is off strip. I've stayed at quite a few different hotels but had basically made MGM Grand my home. This trip we're staying at Caesars. Any general suggestions about Caesars? What rooms are good, where to eat, where to play? Last August we stayed in the Palace tower, which was very nice. Augustus tower is reported to be as good or better (newer), but we chose the Palace tower because of its easy access to the pool area. We were not impressed with the buffet, but the food court was fine for a quick meal. Elevated walkways made going from Caesars to Bellagio or Ballys a short and easy walk.

Posts: 292 10/13/08 18:18:08	We were in Vegas in May of this year. Visited the Diamond Lounges in Ballys, Harrahs, and Caesars. They all have the same thing, chicken wings, chips and dips, and pretzels. There were also cookies, and one night there was chocolate mousse. Keep in mind, you have to get there early, as they run out of food and only replace it once or twice. Drink service was good in all the lounges. For a cheap, old-time Vegas place to eat, I recommend Ellis Island. If you don't know about it, they have a steak dinner for $6.95. Includes salad, steak, baked potato, veggie, and a glass of either their microbrewed beer, or homemade birch beer. The place is not fancy at all, but the food is good, but again, go early, they get really crowded. Have a great time, and win lots! Eileen

Posts: 1595 10/14/08 15:50:41	Hi Terri, I believe all the casinos still have at least 1 VP bar but many have made them $1 min or 10 credit .25 games All that I have played at ( except the 1 small one in Mirage ) comp drinks when you are playing. Fran and I really like the one in Ceasers near the sports book ( the *#%!@% bar ). multi denomination, multi game. We also enjoyed playing in TI, Paris. the Palazzo & Venetian, MGM and there is a nice progressive in Luxor. There are no good pay schedules on the strip. ( at least in the major casinos, maybe some of the smaller ones have good schedules ) As mentioned above, the Palm has full pay VP, so did Red Rock when we visited last trip. The Diamond clubs are nothing like AC, most do not open till 4:00 PM, we did stop in the club at Paris for a drink, it was nice if all you want is a drink. If you like buffets the Mirage has a real nice one and its right next door and of course the Paris buffet Always having fun !....EdB ( photo credit : Bruce from NJ )

Caesars has a shuttle to Rio, a walk across the street to Gold Coast, while not an upscale joint, will finb you plenty of decent Vp and comped drinks with good Vp at the bars. Then the Palms is just a walk across the street where you can play 50 play Jacks at 9/6 in pennies! Posts: 96 10/21/08 19:43:27	Regarding Gold Coast, the key is 'decent VP' on the floor (8/5 JOB) and good at the bars (9/6). They recently downgraded all but the bar VP. TripAdvisor's LV forum has a lot of good info (this is how I learned of the downgrade), once you sort through it all. I recommend it over openvegas.com, which used to be lvtalk.com.
