Timing is everything and Jill and Borgata go perfect together. Where else other than Vegas would she spend her birthday? When she called for reservations
and said it would be a birthday trip, they offered her a Water Club room. You know, that's the kind of room where they have your name on the large screen
TV when you turn it on. The room where you can't remove the snacks from the dresser for more than 30 seconds or you get charged. The great view of AC, as
long as you ask for and get an even numbered room. Ours was 2482 and right next to the elevator. The view of the city was awesome. At first glance the size
of the new Revel Casino hotel was impressive. The mighty Trump Taj Mahal looked small next to it. Trump Marina was right outside our window too - in all
it's Trumped up glory. I remember when it had lights coming down the side of the building when it was Trump's Castle. Now it will be Margaritaville
soon.
Borgata may have been very busy during the past weekend, but it was definitely not during our two days there. The Water Club was basically vacant. No one was
in any of the pools when visited them. Here's a pic Jill took of me at one of the pools.
When we pulled into the Water Club valet, we were the only car there. When we checked in, we were again the only ones doing it. During this trip, we did run
into another person walking to the Water Club. He introduced himself to us but I don't remember his name. He was very well dressed and obviously very
high up the Borgata/Water Club food chain. He stated that he was working on Echelon in Vegas until they stopped it due to the economy. I think he may have
been the guy in charge of it all. He was very cordial.
Now that we got ourselves checked in and checked out the room, we took our hungry butts over to the downstairs food court at the Borgata. Jill got herself a
Philadelphia cheesesteak form Lukes and I was satisfied with a good Chinese meal. After eating, we were right in the perfect location for gambling. The
simultcast area was only 30 seconds away and Jill's favorite nickel slots were right outside of it. She first sat at a Red Baron nickel slot and in went a
$20 bill. After about 20 minutes, out came a TITO worth $300. In went another $20 bill and after another 25 minutes, out came a $350 TITO. Not bad not bad
at all!
Meanwhile, I was getting the lousiest of luck betting on the worst nags imaginable. I did not cash in a ticket till I was already behind by $60 and that
ticket was $14. It was one of those days. Just outside of the simultcast room, Jill inserted another $20 bill and waited for her birthday magic to strike
again. And again it did! After about 30 minutes, out comes a $412 TITO. Now my cell rings and I answer it from my losing simultcast seat. Jill is all
excited and asks me to come over to see her TITO's. I give the nags a break and check out her good luck. I should have rubbed her back for good luck.
When I returned, my horses were no faster nor the jockeys any smarter.
As Jill is getting ready to play on after a bathroom break, a Borgata slot employee appears and opens her machine and other machines nearby. Jill asks her if
she is setting the machines to win. The lady replies: "No, We don't want you to win". She was right. From that moment on, Jill's $20's
did not result in any more winning TITO's. She wisely limited them afterwards. Now it was getting close to dinner time and our plans were to eat at the
Borgata dinner buffet with our son and his wife. They arrived at the Borgata at 5pm and there was no wait at all for the buffet. The food was really good as
usual. Being with our son and his wife on Jill's birthday was a really nice. Since my birthday is tomorrow, it was really a double birthday dinner and
they gave us gift cards for the occasion.
After dinner, I took my son and his wife to our room so they could see what the Water Club was like. Basically we had the tower all to ourselves since there
was not a soul nearby. After their tour, they left for home in nearby Gallaway Township.
We had tickets for the evening comedy show, but we were more in the mood to gamble. So Jill gave her tickets away and off we go to the machines and to the
simultcast racetrack. After an hour more of losing horses, I gave up and joined Jill at the machines. We played 2 cents Cleo together for hours and only lost
about $30 doing it. By the time we headed back to the empty Water Club, Jill had only lost about $100 of her winnings and I was down $100. The bed was real
comfy but the air was not. We began to get very dry and almost sore throats from the air n the room. I called the front desk at 2 am and they sent a mechanic
who changed the air filter. The old one was filthy and it polluted the room. After he left, the air returned to breathable again.
The next day was the day Geri had told all of us in her post that it was going to be beautiful weather. We ate breakfast in the Borgata buffet, checked out of
our room and headed to the Showboat and the Boardwalk. Before going to check out the Revel construction, I played penny Lobstermania and got zilch. Jill
decided to stay in the Showboat and play penny Suns and Moons and Hollywood slots. Walking on the Boards in that beautiful weather was awesome. Seeing the
Revel and how much they accomplished was real cool. I took lots of pics and put some of them in the AC One photo section. Here is my favorite one:
Then I walked over to the Taj and checked out their stores and stopped by at thier simultcast room. I played $20 on an Aquaduct race and got it exactly right
and won $108. Then I returned to the Showboat and played another 3 races and won an additional $75. That put me even for the trip. I met Jill at her
machines and she was not winning like at the Borg. However, she was playing a whole lot either. She had a TITO stuck in a machine and they took an hour to
respond. The service was not good. The lone cocktail waitress appeared to be the only drink server in Jills' half of the casino. What a difference from
the Borgata.
Before leaving the city, we drove to the White House Sub Shop and ordered subs to take home. I walked across the street and got some real tasty pastries from
the bakery that was once Frank Sinatra's favorite. Jill left AC still way ahead and I was even so it was a real good birthday trip.
